RFID Technology Provides Solution for Elopement
RFID stands for radio-frequency identification. It is a technology that transfers data from a small electronic tag with a microchip to a nearby reader device through radio waves. In the last 25 years, it has seen many industrial uses such as shipping and transport, mobile payment systems, animal tracking and identification, inventory management, casino chip tracking, race timing, and a myriad of security applications. It is the technology behind Accutech’s Resident Guard Wander Management Systems. This technology is now used by health care facilities caring for patients suffering from Alzheimers.
New developments in RFID technology now provide great reliability, durability and excellent battery life. The Accutech resident tags are small, lightweight and can comfortably be worn on the ankle or wrist. Accutech RFID tags contain two parts, an integrated circuit or microchip that stores and processes data, generates (modulates and demodulates) the radio frequency signal and an antenna that transmits the signal to the reader device. This technology is very reliable and eliminates “false alarms” that are common with other technologies allowing your staff to spend more time caring for residents and less time trouble-shooting systems.
This flexible technology can be used to protect against elopement in a variety of settings. The Accutech Resident Guard system can be used to protect external doors including double doors, elevator access, stairwells, hallways and even external gates.
Using advanced radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, our wander alert and control systems put your staff at ease while enabling them to direct their energies toward other critical tasks. These products and applications provide healthcare facilities with the flexibility to meet wander management needs with affordable, reliable and expandable solutions that provide increasing security options to notify your staff if residents try to leave the facility or wander into restricted areas.
When this RFID technology from Accutech is combined with the Instant Assistant® wireless health care system from Advanced Wireless Communications, it allows for a complete health care solution. This integration provides the following benefits:
- Full Exterior Doors, Elevators, Stairwells etc. Protection
- Audio Alerting over Two-Way Radio & Area Specific Alarm Tone
- Visual Alerting over LED Scrolling Signs
- Keypad Over-Ride at Exits
- Incident Reporting Ability
- Integration with Most Wired Nurse Call Systems
