When Should I Replace The Battery in my TK-3230 Radio?

This is a great question. Batteries tend to last roughly two years, depending on the frequency of use before you see any wear. One of the signs that a battery is worn down, and should be replaced is that a charge doesn’t last as long.

A “Best Practice” to do is to replace your batteries every two years. This ensures that you are running your two-way radios at their optimum performance level. And it will save you time and money in the long run.

How do I find out how old my battery is?

Every battery will have a “date code”. The date code is stamped on the battery itself and can be a white or grey ink.

On an Advanced Wireless battery the date code is four numbers, the first two being the year. So for example 1304 is a battery that was manufactured in 2013.

On a Kenwood battery the first letter of the four digit (X##Y) code will be the year.
Here’s a quick guide:
M=2008
N=2009
O=2010
P=2011
Q=2012

So for example if the date code is P15Y, the year it was manufactured is 2011.

You should consider replacing the battery if it is two or more years old.
